following the release of jonas kopp s capturing debut album and the transllusion and drexciya re-issues, the berlin powerhouse starts the year with a bang. tresor records is proud to introduce the debut collaboration between two frenchmen, all-time reference dj deep, and emergent artist roman poncet, with two powerful 12-s released back to back, exploring both modern and classic interpretations of techno. dj deep, uncovered by laurent garnier, has always rested on the cusp of modernity, whether in the realm of house or techno, relentlessly delivering visionary selections since his emergence in the early 90s. as label owner of deeply rooted, dj deep seeks out likeminded artists, including poncet, to propel his vision of contemporary sounds. roman poncet, surfaced in 2013 on len faki’s figure imprint. more recently his catalog also expanded to include releases on deeply rooted as well as young french label taapion. the blend of the two producers is simply incendiary and their profound compatibility takes all its sense on these two explosive eps.

james freud is not the deceased singer of the australian new wave band the models. james freud is not a young art-school dropout with an affinity for electronic music. james freud does not live in berlin - he seems to come out of the blue and it is hard to say whether his production is analogue or digital, whether it is sampled material or sound design. because of the strange maturity of his work the tracks seem to come from both the past and the future. thanks to the digging-qualities of dj good news (who runs the hamburg poem-label) a selection of james freuds oeuvre is now brought to light through the 12inch 5-track extended play - to cut a long story short: mental futurism is wise optimism.

maeve is the record label run by three close friends, mano le tough, the drifter and baikal. some years ago, mano and the drifter ran a clubnight in berlin called passion beat. aera was their guest a couple of times. its very fitting that aera now joins us for maeve 06. aera s original you know juno comprises of warm arps and a dark hypnotic bassline over a jacking house beat. on first hearing the track, the drifter was keen to do a remix. his interpretation is a dark take on the original, boosting the bassline, adding a driving beat and pushing the drama to high levels.

this february nightdrivers deliver three first-rate cuts on holic trax for the quando party dove vai ? ep. following on from burnski s the hours ep which saw love from names like mr g, catz n dogz, dam swindle and eats everything, holic trax returns this february with nightdrivers quando party dove vai ? . since delivering their debut release on bosconi records back in 2013 the berlin-based duo nightdrivers have been going from strength to strength stacking up further releases on claap, their own nightdrivers label and now holic trax. to get things underway the light pads of resta pure dove sei give the opening track a floaty quality while the weighty percussion and subtle rhythms build proceedings into a steady and infectious groove. nightdrivers appear to go up a gear as the ep progresses with the rippling drums and dynamic arrangements of la ronde suite (but not for me) while fast cars maintains the lively vibe of its predecessor and frenetically bubbles along over busy modulations, wacky intonations and infectious licks to dish up a suitably punchy close to this bouncy ep.
